False VID block?

Unread postby motorhead1991 » Thu May 16, 2019 12:47 pm

I've been mulling it over but I'm not sure how to pull it off.

If you're familiar with OBD2 ECMs, then you know that they have a few lines of text at the tail end of the strategy. What if we ported this to older bins so we could denote modifications and combo information?

If nothing else, I can use a dummy address and just used a comment. (The XDF information doesn't display anywhere IME)

In my 56k defs, I do exactly that. No issues so far.
1996 Mark VIII LSC - Turbocharged/Intercooled/Methanol, Stall, Tuned, Fuel Support, LSD, blah-blah, really fun, wins most. XDF Available
1994 Mark VIII Farm Car - N/A, Manual Air Ride, Exhaust, Tuned, Projector Retrofit, cruiser car, fun, wins way more than before. XDF Available
2009 F-150 5.4L - SCT Tuned for corn by me, pulls well.

That will work, just keep in mind the checksum address range and calculation.

We use code outside of the checksum range for datalogging IIRC. I'll have to look again.

Yes that is the way to go with logging, however some part of the patch code stills ends up within.

the patch code has to be in rom in order to execute

but yeah you can take any filler you want and do as you please with it.

on eec-v bank 1 e000-ffff is ram so if you have a 256k full binary you can put notes you want there and it wont matter. Its also out of rom so wont affect the checksum and no poasible way for it to be corrupting anything either if u did use filler that a patch ovewrote elsewhere by some chance.
