1994 f150 Speed Density 351w

Unread postby wwhite » Fri Feb 01, 2019 6:28 pm

Hi,
I am needing to tune my SD, have a catch code of K1D1.
I have spoke with Moates about getting Quarter Horse, but said that there is no software for my truck.

I am assuming that my ECU is similar to Gen1 lightning, but not positive.
I see that LHBL0 - '93/96 covers a variety of Lightnings and other trucks, as well as 89-95 F-Series S/D EFI-SD4X strategies exist.

Truck is having E4OD trans rebuilt, headers, intake and cam added.

Do I need a different computer?
Really want to keep SD.
Can I read stock bin/def on ECU on the bench, then use that with QH?

ECU image below:

Thanks in advance.

Is this the hardware code you are looking for: EFI-SD48B ?

Here is an image of the ECU:

EFI-SD48 is the one he's referring to, and I actually copied a tune from one of it's sister ECMs on Friday.

This sounds promising. Did you copy the tune while the ECU was in the truck or on the bench?

OK, excellent. And Quarter Horse is the tuning hardware of choice?

Quarter Horse ordered. Next question:

Stock setup has narrow band O2 sensor(single), Can or will a wide band O2 sensor work? is it required? Can dual wide band O2 work with Speed Density and Quarter Horse?
I will be putting on headers, where I can relocate the single narrow band.
But, if wide band works, or better yet dual wide band, I would like to know.

a wideband is just for info in open loop conditions (startup and wot) the narrowband does all the real work.

the wideband doesnt interface with the ecu its just for logging to know the actual lambda

u can toss dual widebands on it if u like not rly necessary tho. I run dual widebands on my truck but its just for nothing else piece of mind.

OK, received QH in mail, installed in truck no problem.
Read stock ECU, no problem.

A couple of issues and questions.
First my K1D1.bin differs quite a bit from the stock 89-95 F-Series S/D EFI-SD4X PLOO.bin, probably expected.

Browsing via hex editor, and looking at disassembly, the hex value for "Engine Displacement" is in a different location between the two bins.
K1D1.bin from 1994 351w SpeedDensity shows Engine Displacement value of 0xaa7f (7faa).
PLOO.bin shows Engine Displacement value of 0x9c7f (7f9c) for 351.

I have not written the .bin to QH yet, I am trying to learn and understand everything first.

From the comparison of my read bin (K1D1) and the stock one posted on download page (PLOO), these to me appear completely different.

So, question:
Will this PLOO bin actually work with my hardware?
With a different catch code, can a bin be completely different from stock, where it accesses different memory registers etc., running a completely different program with different scalars, etc.?
After writing PLOO.bin to my hardware, I can assume it now has a catch code of PLOO, is this the correct way of thinking what is going on?
