fuel pump for turbo

Unread postby 91foxgt » Thu Feb 08, 2018 6:52 pm

I been wanting to turbo my stang for a while now and i finally started buying parts and getting everything together. I want to start with fuel and air delivery so i bought a pmas maf and 80lb ingectors. Im still waiting for them to arrive but i pretty much got my car ready for the install. The problem i ran into is the fuel pump. I thought that i had a 255lp/h fuel pump but after inspecting the box i realized it was only 155lp/h. Would this be a problem for my setup or can i get away with the 155lb/h. I want to know because i already rented a dyno for tuning the maf and injectors and get a base line so i would have to cancel it because it would take some time to order and install a new pump. Thanks.

if it supports the power your trying to make then you'll be fine

the hp limits are in the pre tune info page

Just checked and there is no way for my fuel pump to keep up with the horsepower im trying to make. lol. guess i have to add fuel pump to the list too. :(

i should still be able to do the base line dyno and get my maf and injectors tuned in so for now i guess i can get away with it till i order the turbo.

for all that your much better off just buying a quarterhorse and tossing the a9l2 in there following the directions

btw, you should never bring a vehicle to a dyno in a non running state to get dialed in. Always best to get the vehicle running and the fuel dialed in to verify everything is 100% prior to going to a dyno. Contact your tuner and they will get you setup with a tune prior to showing up to verify all is functional. Otherwise expect to spend quite a bit of money of diagnostics on the dyno. In the past year just about every single vehicle I've had on the dyno for "just a tune" had over 12+ hrs of diagnostics due to the owners incompetence or simply overlooking something or pure ignorance. Any dyno tuner will tell you the same as well. Best to get your tuner to hook u up with a startup tune to work out any bugs before going.

i actually have a quarterhorse and im using the a9l2 tune. the car is in fully working condition. all im waiting for is the injector high/low slope data and the maf flow data. I found some data already online but i don't trust it 100% so im going to email the manufacture for the specific data. the reason why im going to bring it to the dyno is mostly to get a base line dyno run and tweak the tune if it needs to be. I want a good base then add the turbo and adjust whatever it needs to make the most but safest power. i was just worried about the fuel pump but since without the turbo ill probably only make 250hp max, im not in a rush to swap it out for a 255lp/h pump till i need to. Thanks

one last question and im pretty much done setting up a startup tune for the new injector maf combo. In tuner pro the injector breakpoint is preset to 5.xxx but the injector breakpoint for the 80lbs says its 0.00002421. theres a big difference between those numbers so im wondering if it is 2.421 instead. i also have to scale it so i just do 2.421/(2649.92/1500). so 2.421/1.766613333333333= 1.370418729622027. so thats my scaled injector breakpoint? sorry if my math is confusing, i tried to show all the steps i took to get the number.

the more i research this, the more confused it get. I found a formula to convert the breakpoint to use with the GUFb strategy. i got 0.00002421 x 4= 0.00009684. then you do 9.684 / 1.76661333333333= (5.481674918488106). Which one do i use lol, so many formulas but dont know which one is the right one.

go to the fuel_bkpt PID in tunerpro and plug in the data exactly as it should be

ok. i still need to scale it so im going to change to 0.000010 to 0.00002421 / 1.7666133. Thanks for the help.

nevermind it just clicked in my head. i just enter 0.0000241 where the 0.000010 is then go to the other breakpoint and divide that by the scaling number.
