Moates QH - Handheld - well sorta

Unread postby decipha » Mon Dec 12, 2016 2:00 pm

This has been brought to my attention by a premium member here looking for an alternative to using the laptop in the vehicle

the answer... an 8" tablet running windows 10

model: DL808W

here's a link $50 at your local bestbuy
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/digiland-8- ... Id=4306700

whats needed?

a female usb a to micro usb adapter, ideally you want to get one with a charging port too so you can charge it while logging in the vehicle, not necessary but surely Is nice

https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Female-Cab ... B00NSBVNCM

it has been verified, TunerPro RT can be installed and ran on this tablet, you can tune and datalog without having a bulky laptop with you, its a nice in vehicle "handheld" for those that use their laptops for business work or the like

any questions regarding it or findings would be best to be kept here to keep it all together, it seems like a great idea to me, i'll be ordering 3 of them shortly

Michael, I have been away from the tuning community a long time and would like to replace my old TweecerRT with a QH and TunerPro RT. I like the idea of using a tablet instead of a laptop. The digiland DL808W is still available but this thread is over a year old. Do you still recommend this? Have you discovered any pitfalls or issues? Thanks, Mark

Wife gave me a NuVision 8" Windows 10 tab from Amazon for v-day and TPRT works perfectly on it. Set it up the same way you would a laptop.

I did not. I downloaded it from Mark's website and it installed like normal, then just went through and set it up like in the getting started write up. Has the tablet finished updating yet? I'm pretty computer dumb so I'm sorry I'm not more help.

You used to be able to double click the window to go to fullscreen, but Mark recently removed that functionality for some reason. Click preferences under the tools menu and go to the keyboard tab. Look for 'dock/undock topmost utility tab' and that should get you squared away. I changed it to cntl-s to match some of the other changes I made to connect to the QH.

well yes it is built. but I ment like a custom looking dash. but I think I'm going to just stick with what I got . thanks . one quick question though off topic. why would my wideband gauge spit out different numbers then the wideband on the logger. like it's pretty off even if I pick the one I have

How is the NuVision tablet working out for you guys?

I'm looking to add a small tablet to stay in the car for Tunerpro and found this one to be the cheapest that should still work.

Haha, no problem. Good to hear it was working for you. Let me know what they say about fixing it. The next cheapest option seems to be twice the price.

Also, how do you have the tablet mounted in the car?

Thanks for the tip, I just got one and I like it.

It only has one USB socket that it uses to charge the battery and connect to peripherals. Has anybody figured out how to do both at the same time, so it can be connected to the QH and the car's B+ circuit for tablet operating power at the same time? I'm afraid to just try a USB hub for fear the QH won't like B+. But I'm handicapped because I don't really know how USB works.

Damnit.

I should have backed my BIN, ADX, and logs up to the microSD card every time I did a save.

Because it just went brick. Won't power up.

I had even gone to Summit Point Motorsports on the main track for a day of tune and log sessions. Looks like I'll be going back for a do-over soon.

Well, starting over will be easier this time because I learned a ton getting it this far. Serves me right for using a sloppy data protection routine.

no need to back up logs or adx file, i erase logs as soon as i look them over most the time i dont even save them

adx can be downloaded on the homepage no problem

the bin file isn't that important, as long as you remember what injector values you had you can simply just dial the maf in again no problem

if you had transients dialed in then a round about figure should get you in the ballpark and make it easier to dial in again

spark is easy, you should know how much timing you are shooting to her

dont sweat it, will be better this time around

URRRGGG . . . .

Thanks, you're right, it won't be the end of the world to start over, maybe even less frustration and more fun because I know more this time.

I was having a bad moment yesterday morning when I realized the tablet was doa.

I can get the MAF dialed back in with the KAMs, I have a ballpark idea of the load ceilings, and the injectors are just 19# Explorers so it's not like I'm gonna be splitting the atom.

Thanks again.

Your last bin file should still be on the quarterhorse, why not download it to tunerpro, save it and resume where you left off?

Yes, thanks, good idea. We were running a handful of different tunes to iterate stuff, and it was painful to lose those and the logs that went with them, which we hadn't really studied enough on-site. But it is nice to have one survivor.
