IRCM mod?

Unread postby korn_kid_12 » Thu Jan 04, 2018 8:52 pm

I read this in the pretune write up. I am trying to understand what is being requested. I have a 1995 Mustang which has the control module between the water pump and the radiator. I assume this is the IRCM. "On vehicles equipped with a IRCM - Ignition Relay Control Module, the fuel pump relay trigger should be tapped prior to the module and ran to an external high amperage relay with a minimum 10 gauge wiring ran to the fuel pump and relay. The relay power feed is recommended to be ran to the alternator charging post for the greatest voltage achievable. This is required on all high performance vehicles." Is there a write up on how to make this modification? By the way I also run an external Vortec fuel pump. 190lph in tank.

No write up needed. The stock IRCM is barely enough for the stock fuel pump. Anything bigger and you need to put it all on a bigger relay. Just tap the stock trigger wire and run your new wiring.

the fuel pump trigger wire comes from the ecu its usually the same wire color up to the ircm, u can tap it at the ecu if its easier for you

Would it be reasonable to use the 10 or 8 gauge Wire I have running to the Trunk from the battery for the external pump and the trigger wire I am using for the external pump relay to add a second relay and power the in tank pump with it. So basically run both pumps from the same battery and trigger wire with 2 different relays.
