Header Gaskets

Unread postby thequietman45 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 5:05 am

Good Morning,

I have a blow out on #3 exhaust port on a 351W block. I am using JBA coated shorty headers along with soft aluminum header gaskets. The bottom of the port has the blowout and the bolts are tight. What is a better gasket?

Is there a sealant that is worth using in this situation?

I've used copper rtv sealant before with no problems. In fact on the supercoupes they come from the factory with no exhaust manifold gaskets. On those cars we have always just tossed some rtv on there and never a problem. YMMV

Thanks, I will give that a try.

Appreciate the help. I finally got some feedback on my tune and the bronco runs solid...……………... great AFR according to my LC2. Then I heard that dang tick tick tick

I use straight red rtv on my turbo manifolds. Works mint.

Ok, thanks. I got it fixed. The last bolt took almost an hour...very hard to get a wrench on it due to the header. I ground the edge off a 3/8" craftsman to fit.
Brute force and ignorance :D
