6-rib to an 8-rib

Unread postby RIKIL » Mon Apr 03, 2017 10:00 pm

A while back I sourced and made some parts so I can use an 8 rib belt on my supercharger. I am just now getting around to installing the new parts and I have a question about the pulley that attaches to the crank:

the original pulley is 6.5" diameter and the new pulley I have is 7.0" diameter. This is about 15% larger in circumference. The pulley on the supercharger is the same diameter. What effect will the 15% bigger pulley have? It'll push more air but is it something I should not do (and find a 6.5" pulley)? Need to change the tune?

thats 15% overdrive you have now

you need to find the max rated blower rpm and make aure your not over spinning it

its simple math

lower pulley / upper pulley = ratio
ex: 7/3= 2.33

engine rpm *ratio = blower rpm
6200*2.33=14,450

as for the tune you should be good no changes needed there just make sure the extra powah doesnt the take out your fuel system i.e. go lean

so here's what I came up with...

My blower has a max rating of 52,000 RPM with a 3.61 gear ratio. so...

6.88(crank pulley) / 2.86(blower pulley) * 6000PRM * 3.61ratio = 52105

I found the 6.88 pulley on-line.

For me I think 6000 RPM is high, I will get above 5500 but that is probably it. So I am probably safe here.

yep your good, factor in belt slip and your even more legit

them little vortechs make some massive heat when driven though, Id recommend putting at a minimum a 15 and a 10 gph meth nozzle on it both spraying into the blower and never use any less than 50% meth or just use the blue 0 degree rated windshield washer fluid

What do you think the effect would be if I directed a 2" pipe of cold air from the outside directly onto the top, outside of the blower to cool it? I have an intake area which is not behind my radiator.
