Speedometer options.. digital dash from QH a solution?

Unread postby Mike86Stang » Tue Oct 25, 2016 5:46 am

On my current build I am using a T56 out of 03/04 Cobra , which lacks a mechanical hook up for a cable driven speedometer.
I have done quite a bit of digging but I'm not really happy with my options and wanted to get some feedback/ suggestions/ input from you fine folks.

Options I have found thus far:
Cable X
SpeedBox
Retro fit housing for mechanical speedo ( require machine work and disassembly )
Retro fit Mech speedo gauge with guts from a electronic speedo ( issues from compatibility, sweep, and calibration here.)
GPS Speedometer

Then I was thinking this morning about how a lot of folks are feeding the Mega Squirt digital dash into a tablet or something similar. Is there a way to do the same with the Moates QH digital dash? Any ideas on what would be required?

My preference is to retain the stock gauge cluster, but if I cannot I would rather just move to a digital dash.

Any feedback/help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks
Mike

you can blue tooth it with the moates module and pull it up on your phone, laptop, etc...

I've considered using a Windows tab mounted to the car to run the software and the for use as a digital dash.

Thanks Mike.

I just figured that out today, however it won't fly since there is no way to run the odometer. So it looks like I'm stuck with one of the previous options.

After looking at all my options I will probably run Dakota Digitals converter box for $280 ( cheapest option available) but also seem reliable from what I have found.

Also on a related subject, if I hook up the VSS from the cobra trans, is the signal the same? Or will I need to change something in the tune to compensate for it?

Thank you for your help so far!
Mike

the t56 as with most ford manual transmissions has a 12 tooth count output shaft, you'll need to convert that to the 8000 pulse/mile input the factory cluster is looking for AFAIK, I could be wrong but I believe that to be correct
