how do you know when your intact track needs an air straightener added?

the maf voltage fluctuates more than 0.03 volts at a stable condition

If youre in the market, check out the SaxonPC air straighteners.. I put them in everything, even if the MAF is in a long section of straight pipe..

thanks for the replies. I am familiar with the SaxonPC honeycomb. At my work at times we use an aluminum version of honeycomb very similar so I actually made some at various different thicknesses. How do you secure them? I had a 1/4" thick piece in my last setup sandwiched in between 2 tubes inside of the coupler but I wasn't thrilled with that setup. I am thinking the screens would be easier to wrap over the end of tube and then cover and clamp with the coupler.

My car seems to be running better with my new intact track setup but I do see a little bit more then an .03 swing at idle. For a 5-10 second clip it will vary .03 but if you watch it for 30 seconds or so it will vary .06.

I use the Aluminum ones inside an aluminum pipe. I used 2 part epoxy to secure it. I smeared a little on the inside of the tube and pressed it in place. Ive never had one come loose and mine has been in my personal car now for about 6 or 7 years.

ok that doesnt sound too bad. how thick of a piece do you use? how close do you mount them to the maf? just using 1 in front of the maf, or one on each side of it? and how much does your maf voltage fluctuate at idle? sorry for all the questions lol

My maf voltage is extremely stable at idle. I really do not get any fluctuation. I only use one in front of it but if I was recirculating my BOV I would run one on both sides. I usually put them about about 2-3 inches in front of the MAF. The last one I ordered was a 5:1 ratio but I have also used 6:1 ratio. Saxon recommends a lower ratio for higher HP. I think 6:1 is recommended up to 550hp. Im making that at the wheels with the 5:1

just to update I added a piece of aluminum honeycomb in exactly like Dleach described, 5:1 ratio, 2-3" in front of MAF, and 2 part epoxy'd in place. My MAF voltage throughout seems to be much more stable and I had to make considerable adjustment to my MAF curve to get fuel dialed in. Its still not rock solid at idle but only fluctuates .02 volts now.

Glad you also had good luck with the same method and location. Are you getting a more stable idle?

haha maybe for my next one, still just have a good ole fashioned 2-stroke. Ski doo sure has those figured out, I get excellent fuel mileage and oil consumption along with 160hp on a machine that weighs about 500 lbs. Turbo's have completely taken off in the last few years in the sled scene though. New for Ski Doo last year is a 3 cylinder 900cc turbo'd 4-stroke making around 150hp, people already tweaking them to up the boost and hp. I've def fallen for turbo's so if everything holds up well there's a good chance that would be my next sled.
