The erratic RPM is without the actuator connected. Moving the throttle a few degrees causes s big jump in RPM. If you quickly release the throttle it still hangs higher then slowly comes back down after a few seconds.
The couplings are new Heim joints and tight. The speed sensor detects ring gear teeth. It generates an AC voltage. I measured around 4 to five volts while running.
GHJ are for a remote potentiometer. Same as adjusting the RPM pot inside the governor unit.
From what I've read droop allows the engine to lag in RPM response. It's mostly used for AC generators running in parallel, or synchronous operation. Also prevents RPM "hunting".
I returned the governor thinking there could be something wrong with it. Seems like with chinese products the customer is now quality control.

Re: Need custom EEC-V tuning for governor operation
I tried all different adjustments of the governor. I could never steady the engine. It's like the engine timing was all over the place. Near idle it would be 10 degrees restarted. Just barely touch the throttle and timing would jump up to 20 or 30 degrees advanced. RPM would jump by a 1000 RPM or more. Is there a way to lock the timing in the Ranger computer?

Re: Need custom EEC-V tuning for governor operation
Wwhite, I'll send you a personal message. Red5.0, I was thinking the same about the AC request when the deadman is activated. If that RPM setpoint is adjustable in the programming?

I believe so, is this the J3 port?

Re: Need custom EEC-V tuning for governor operation
Can anyone extract the info in the ROM of the old computer? Maybe use that info in the EEC-V computer? It's beyond my skill set, I'm interested in paying someone to help solve my problem. I can do the mechanical work.

Re: Need custom EEC-V tuning for governor operation
Yes, there is a stock Ford IAC on the throttle body.

Re: Need custom EEC-V tuning for governor operation
The new governor generates an RPM signal using a magnetic pickup installed close to the flywheel ring gear. It generates an AC voltage (frequency) of about 1 to 6 volts. The governor uses that data to modulate a magnetic coil inside the actuator that then opens/closes the throttle body butterfly. Problem is the Ford Ranger computer idling is about 10 degrees retarted timing. Barely move the throttle shaft and RPM jumps up around 1500 and the timing jumps to about 20 or degrees advanced. I assume that is part of the Ford EEC-V programming?
I have messed with the throttle body idle stop screw. I can get it to run revved up around 1500RPM consistently but as soon a load is put on it bogs way down. Also, you want the engine to idle when you're not using the hydraulics to save fuel.

Re: Need custom EEC-V tuning for governor operation
Here's the old computer Ford 1U1L-12A650-CB or JLG 1600367. It operated a Bosch motorized throttle body 1U1L-9E979-BA and used a MAP sensor instead of a MAF. The rest of the parts on the engine appear to be stock Ford stuff.

Re: Need custom EEC-V tuning for governor operation
Interesting about the 7.0L governor. The boom lift engine is made by Ford Power Products but the computer was not made by Ford. I was told that the end user (JLG) supplied their own operating program but I'm not sure. I still have the old computer if anyone could pull the information from it. I have the old harness, too.
